Fethiye

Altstadt Fethiye Named after the son of Apollo, Telmessos, this city is considered important for oracles in ancient times. Many famous personalities attended the services of the local soothsayers. The modern name of Fethiye reminded the downed fight pilot Fethi Bey and a monument in downtown reminded this incident. The area around Fethiye is very fertile. The export goods in the city include tomatoes, olive oil and cotton. The beauty of nature, history, sea and sun merge into an unforgettable landscape in Fethiye. So you can see from the white gently sloping pebble beach, Ölüdeniz - also called blue lagoon- the snowcapped peaks of Mount Mendos. These and other mountains of the Taurus Mountains surrounded Fethiye as a protective natural bond.
In the center of town is much going on, especially on the Turkish bazaar. You can find the bazaar in the alleys of the ancient Old Town. Browse through the shade of the plant roofs to see the traditional range of carpets, spices, leather goods and sweets. Alternatively, there are also modern shopping streets.

Haman In the middle of the tiny streets and shopping streets you will discover the fish market. Here you can choose a fish and go into one of the nearby restaurants. Your selected fish will be brought to the restaurant and they will cook them for you for a very cheap price. Especially in the evening the atmosphere in this place is unique because the guests are entertained by traditional live-music.
The perfect balance to the lively Old Town you can find in the historic hamam, a traditional Turkish steam bath. The plant is about 400 years old and offers total relaxation for body and mind.

Diving in Fethiye
Fantastic underwater landscapes, deep canyons, caves and ancient ruins are waiting of you on the coast of Fethiye. In the canyons below the bays and the open sea at almost endless sight the barracuda, grouper fish and flute feel very well. The town of Fethiye is a visit worth.

Kayaköy

Karaköy Most of the Commune is a ghost town. The former Greek inhabitants were distributed in the execution of the Treaty of Lausanne. Today Kayaköy is a museum village and a historical monument, nearly 3,500 house ruins has remained here, including two Greek Orthodox Church ruins. Here once lived about 20.000 inhabitants, their houses ruled in a respectful manner so that no house assumes the view. There is a private museum to the history of the town and in the middle of the village is a wellspring of the 17th Century. Kayaköy is a popular destination for domestic and foreign artists from the fields of sculpture, ceramics and photography. Everyone who is interested in art and history will find a lot of sightseeing.

Tlos/Saklikent

Saklikent The city Tlos and the nearby canyon Saklikent have many highlights of culture and nature. In Tlos are highly recommended especially the amphitheater and the ancient ruins of the city walls of a bath house and a high school. Eight kilometers away is the gorge of Saklikent. It is known as ‘the Hidden Valley’ - 18 km long, steep, narrow and one of the longest and deepest canyons in Turkey. It is so deep that even the sun cannot reach to the water. Thus the water is icy cold in the summer months. The gorge was formed by the sliding base plates and the erosion of the water left behind on the walls of the valley a wonderful, mystical and fascinating limestone form. Here you can find the source of the river Xanthos and the famous moor baths of Saklikent.

The trip takes us to Tlos where you have the opportunity to visit the ancient city. It goes on to the whitewater canyon Saklikent. After a tasty lunch, you have the opportunity to explore the impressive canyon on your own. At the end you can swim in Patara.

Dalyan/Kaunos

In the stunningly beautiful nature reserve of Dalyan, is the once wealthy city of ruins – Kaunos. This can only be reached on foot by wading across the river. You can slide with small boats through the meter-high reeds and reach over the marshes to Kaunos. There you will find a temple, an acropolis, the famous royal tombs, and many more. In the hot months, it is also highly possible that the Carettta which belongs to the genus of giant sea turtles comes to the estuary of the Dalyan to lay their eggs. This experience is a unique spectacle that you should not miss.

Patara

PataraThe ancient Patara at the river of Xanthos is one of the most promising cultural cities in the region. In Hellenism it becomes the main naval base in the wars and the 2km extending port reminded this incident. With ancient ruins of triumphal arches, baths, a theater, granaries, and aqueducts from Hadrian's time, this place is worth visiting for you if you are interested in ancient Greek scriptures. All over the city associated texts can be discovered and deciphered on the stones of the ruins. Maybe it was one of the most beautiful beaches on the coast, which let Apostle Paul to continue his long stay in the city of Patara.

Xanthos

Xanthos is the major regional river and also a city that is the oldest in Lycia. Xanthos is in the center of the story the capital and the federal sanctuary of the Lycian Empire. Nowadays this city is part of world heritage. A theater and the temple city –Letoon- reminds the past glory of ancient metropolis. The Lycian grave monuments, pillars and sarcophagi trenches are clearly marked by freedom, the holy of the inhabitants of Xanthos. They attracted even the death to escape a reign of Brutus.

Myra/Demre

The ancient city, earlier Myra, in Lycia and home of the legendary St. Nicholas offers a lot of cultural adventure. The importance of the city begins in the Hellenistic period, as Demre developed into one of the six largest cities of the Lycian Federation. Among other things, Nicholas let built an imposing basilica. After his death the bones were preserved there and so the city became a popular destination for pilgrims. The city lost the importance as Italian merchants in the year, 1087 AD, convicted the bones to Bari and in this way their home town get an important status in Europe. The sights of the city clearly indicating to the influences of antiquity and christianity. Extremely interesting are the roman theatre and the Lycian rock graves.
